■Course Period

At the Yokohama YMCA, Department of Japanese Language Studies, you will aim to master thorough Japanese language by training all-round Japanese ability which consists of the following four skills; “listening”, “speaking”, “reading”, and “writing”. It is perfect for those of you who wish to pursue further studies (technical schools, universities, graduate schools) or work in Japan.

( 25 hours a week, 38weeks a year. A total of 950 hours a year)

■Application Requirements

①The applicant must have completed 12 years of formal education or have the entrance qualifications for higher education such as universities in their home country.
②The applicants must have a Japanese language ability equivalent to the JPLT(Japanese Language Proficiency Test) Level 4 ( about 150 hours of studying the Japanese language) .
③The applicant must have a contact person/guardian residing in Japan.

■Application Procedure

① Submit application
Have your contact person in Japan submit the application documents and application fee (20,000 Yen) directly to the Japanese Language Department front desk. YMCA does not accept applications by mail. Please make an appointment before you bring your application to YMCA (Closed on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays. Applicants will be able to submit the application to YMCA on Saturday of Nov. and May).Once paid, the application fee will not be refunded for any reason.
②Screening, Application for Certificate of Eligibility
Once your application has been examined and you have been accepted, YMCA will submit an application for Certificate of Eligibility to the Yokohama District Immigration Office, Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau. If necessary, an interview and a written test will be required (administered in your home country).Also, an interview with your contact person may be required.
③ Procedures by the Immigration Office, Issuance of Visa 
Once the Certificate of Eligibility has been issued from the Yokohama District Immigration Office, Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau, the school will inform the contact person. After the tuition has been paid, the school will hand over the Certificate of Eligibility. You are required to take this document to the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in your country upon which you will be able to receive your visa.

■Tuition and Fees

*In addition to the above, students are expected to purchase books and class materials (About ¥10,000~¥20,000 for 6 months)
*Students who will join the 1-year study abroad course will be required to pay the full 790,000 yen once the visa request has been approved by the Immigration Office.*Students who will join the 1 and a half year study abroad course will be required to pay 460,000 yen (entrance fee 120,000 yen, tuition for half year 320,000 yen, and facility fee 20,000 yen) once the visa request has been approved by the Immigration Office, and 670,000 yen (tuition fee for 1 year 640,000yen, facility fee 30,000 yen) in the following March.
*Once the tuition has been paid, it cannot be refunded for any reason (except in the event that the student’s visa application is denied by the Japanese embassy or the consulate).

■From application to admission into school

Application

The contact person in Japan will submit the application documents and application fee (20,000 yen).

Screening

Screening by examining the application documents and the results of interview of the contact person in Japan and tests (written and interview) administered in applicant’s home country.

Admission
(Issuance of admission certificate)

If the applicant is accepted, the YMCA will issue an admission certificate. If he/she fails, the application documents will be returned to the applicant.

Application for Certificate of Eligibility

The school will submit the applicant’s application for Certificate of Eligibility to the Yokohama District Immigration Office, Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau.

Issuance of the Certificate of Eligibility

Once the application has been accepted, the school will receive the Certificate of Eligibility from the Immigration Office and inform the contact person

Payment of Tuition
Please pay the tuition by the specified way

Forwarding of the Certificate of Eligibility
The school will hand over the Certificate of Eligibility to the contact person in Japan

Application of VISA
at the Japanese Embassy or Consulate

Have your VISA issued at your nearby Japanese Embassy or Consulate in your home country.

Arriving in Japan, Entrance into school

Please inform the school your date of arrival

■List of the Entrance Requirements

There are two types of Lists of Entrance Requirements (Type I and Type II) according to the country which the applicant is from. Please refer to the corresponding List of Entrance Requirements.
Apart from the List of the Entrance Requirements, the applicant will need to receive the application documents. If you are from a country which corresponds to the List of the Entrance Requirements Type I, please have your contact person in Japan come to the YMCA office in person to receive the application documents.
